Phil Campbell (1961–2026)

Phil Campbell

7 May 1961 – 13 March 2026

The world of rock and heavy metal lost one of its most enduring guitar heroes when Phil Campbell passed away on 13 March 2026 at the age of 64 after complications following a major operation.

For more than three decades, Campbell stood at the heart of Motörhead, joining the band in 1984 and remaining its longest-serving guitarist until the group ended after the death of Lemmy Kilmister in 2015.
His riffs powered some of the band’s most iconic records—from Orgasmatron to Bad Magic—and his playing became inseparable from the raw, uncompromising sound that defined Motörhead’s legacy.

Born in Pontypridd, Wales, Campbell picked up the guitar as a child and quickly developed a style shaped by the spirit of classic rock and heavy metal. Over the years he proved himself not only a formidable guitarist but also a songwriter whose work helped carry Motörhead through multiple generations of fans.

After Motörhead’s final chapter, he continued doing what he loved most: playing loud rock and roll. With his sons Todd, Tyla, and Dane he formed Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons, keeping the spirit of Motörhead alive while creating new music and touring relentlessly.

Beyond the stage, Campbell was remembered as a warm and generous person—devoted to his wife, children, and grandchildren, and known among friends and fans simply as a genuine, kind soul.

His passing marks the end of another chapter in the story of Motörhead, but his influence will echo through every distorted riff and thunderous stage for years to come.

Rest in peace, Phil.
The amps may go silent, but the rock and roll will never die. 🤘
